BLAINE, Minn. – (June 25, 2015) – The Four Seasons Curling Club and Fogerty Arena in Blaine has recently been named an official U.S. Olympic Training site. The club will be the first Olympic Training site for curling in the U.S. This is especially impressive because there are only 18 total official Olympic Training sites for all sports in the entire country.
Regan Birr of the Four Seasons Curling Club commented, “It’s official. We are affiliated with the Olympic Committee for the United States and we’re very proud of their designation. We are the only, as far as I know, we are the only dedicated curling Olympic U.S. training site. So it’s a very big deal for the state of Minnesota.”
This is much more than simply a new title though. This is expanding the sport of curling by enabling more people to recognize and utilize superior training facilities. Birr mentioned that the facility is working to develop programs for all ages; from programs for kids to adults to seniors- it’s something everyone can try.
Birr added, “A stronger emphasis on not only improving athletic development, which is our core focus; but also, reaching out to the community and involving the public to constantly feel welcomed to come in and learn to curl.”
This opportunity also allows for an increasing world-wide awareness of curling and it can allow the Four Seasons Curling Club to gain partnerships around the world.
Birr continues, “We will continue our growing reputation as having fantastic ice that’s getting a world-wide name. So we will continue to have international teams come in from Canada and China, and Great Britain, and hopefully a lot more countries around the world.”
Later this summer, a community celebration will be held to recognize the designation.
“I think this really opens up the world’s view to Blaine, Minnesota,” said Birr.
