ANOKA COUNTY, Minn. — The Commuter Challenge kicked off this week and you have 90 days to make a pledge and make a difference. “Every year we host a Commuter Challenge to try and get people to not drive by themselves” said Renee Sande, executive director of Anoka County Commute Solutions.
In the 15 years of the Commuter Challenge, survey results of those who participate show that many individuals continue their new commuting habits after the challenge ends. Renee encourages anyone to try a new transportation method at anytime, but this 90 period is set aside each year to challenge and entice.
It’s easy to take the Commuter Challenge. Participants simply need to sign up for the Challenge and take one or more trips, using an alternative to driving alone, before June 30 to qualify for the prize drawing. “The Commuter Challenge is an easy way for commuters to take the first step in changing how they get around – even if it’s just a day or two each week,” said Metro Transit General Manager Brian Lamb.
Renee also suggests that you find a commuting comrade to take the challenge with you, “grab a friend to try it with.” Renee believes that the individuals who take the commuter challenge will see change in their lives in three specific ways. “Our theme for the Commuter Challenge is, healthier you, healthier finances, healthier environment.”
Commuter Challenge participants can see how their commuting habits save money and reduce their carbon footprint. By using an online trip tracker, commuters can watch what they’re saving in gas, carbon dioxide, calories and miles. Commuters who track their trips at least once a month are eligible to win a gift card.
Now you have been challenged, the next part is up to you.
