BLAINE, Minn. (May 16, 2017) – Back in February it was announced that the Spring Lake Park Schools would be building a new pre-K through 4th grade elementary school on the campus of the National Sports Center (NSC) campus in Blaine, near the intersection of Davenport St. NE and 105th Ave. NE.
The exact location of the school will be at the west end of the Main Parking Lot, just north of the NSC Velodrome, with vehicle and bus access off Davenport St. NE. Over 600 students are expected to be served by the school. The school will open in the fall of 2018.
After securing city approval, the school district will begin construction during the week of May 22. During the construction phase, starting May 22, there will be some significant changes to traffic access and parking on the NSC campus.
Changes in traffic access:
The two access points from Davenport St. NE into the Main Parking Lot will be closed. These access points will be closed to accommodate construction of the school building.
The access point adjacent to field U3, with access directly to Parking Lot A (Residence Hall) will also be closed. The School District will be constructing a new parking lot on the site of field U3. This new parking lot will replace parking spaces lost in the Main Parking Lot. Construction of this new lot will necessitate closing this entrance point during the construction phase.
Traffic entering and exiting the portion of the NSC campus south of 105th Ave NE will need to use 105th Ave NE. Victory Links Golf Course traffic will use the existing access road (no changes.) Traffic accessing the Schwan Super Rink, Welcome Center, NSC Stadium, Residence Hall, Indoor Sports Hall, and A, B, C and U soccer fields will enter from 105th Ave NE, via the existing access road into the Main Lot and Schwan Super Rink Lot.
Some traffic access points will be reopened on a temporary basis during the Schwan’s USA CUP soccer tournament, July 14-22. Schwan’s USA CUP is the NSC’s largest annual event.
Changes in parking:
All parking in the west end of the Main Parking Lot will be closed. Parking will remain open in the east end of the Main Lot and the entirety of the Schwan Super Rink Lot.
Lot A (adjacent to Residence Hall) and Lot B (south of the Indoor Sports Hall will remain open. However, these lots will need to be accessed via the service road that circles around the east side and south side of the Stadium and alongside fields C1 and C2.
