BLAINE, Minn. (7/11/2023) – It’s not often when a roadway turns into a runway, but that was the case recently for a pilot who had to make a snap decision and land on a North Metro highway.
A small plane travelling from Cambridge to Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie made an unscheduled landing on a Blaine roadway July 8th.
According to Blaine police, the Cessna 172 aircraft experienced low oil pressure and was rerouted to the Anoka County-Blaine Airport. But the pilot determined he could not get there safely so he brought the small plane down on 125th Avenue NE and Legacy Creek Parkway after seeing that there was no traffic on the road.
There were no injuries and no damage to the plane. The impromptu landing happened at approximately 2 pm.
