BLAINE – (March 18, 2021) – The playgrounds at Northwood, Fort Lion, Hidden Ponds and Centennial parks will all be replaced this year. The Blaine City Council approved the upgrades in February.
All of the parks have equipment that is nearly 20 years old. City officials say anything that can be re-used will be. But the city has budgeted up to $50,000 for brand new play equipment at each park. They say safety standards and the equipment’s condition warrants replacement.
Recreation Manager Nate Monahan told the council most of the equipment will need replacement.
“We always try to provide a wide variety of equipment with slides and climbing equipment and monkey bars and different things, easy access for kids in the 2 to 5 range,” said Monahan.
The designs include provisions for children with disabilities.
“We try to put some type of elements in there if we can,” said Monahan.
The project was included in the Parks Master Plan and the 2021 Parks and Trails budget.
