ANOKA, Minn. – (Dec. 1, 2016) – Over the Thanksgiving weekend, police are saying that a 95-year-old man from Anoka was murdered, and now they are looking for answers.
Albert Loehlien lived independently in his home on the 1200 block of 5th Avenue South. A member of his family found him on Monday morning while delivering groceries to his home. He was last seen alive by his family on Thanksgiving Day.
Authorities say that it appears that his home had been gone through, and they have a vague description of a man seen in the driveway on Saturday morning.
Authorities did take a 27-year-old man into custody and have called him a suspect in the case.
They are asking anyone who may have seen anything to call the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office at 763-427-1212.
UPDATE – (Dec. 2, 2016)
The Anoka County Attorney’s Office has filed charges in this week’s homicide case involving a 95-year-old Anoka man.
Isaiah Montrell Thomas, 27, of Anoka, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder. At Thomas’ first court appearance in Anoka County District Court Friday morning, Judge Kristin Larson set bail at $2 million and scheduled the next hearing for Dec. 15.
“This is an offense where everyone is outraged and frustrated at the senseless killing of an elderly gentleman,” said Anoka County Attorney Tony Palumbo. “The killer showed no mercy to the victim. The state will show no mercy to the killer.”
