BLAINE, Minn. – (April 7, 2016) – Coming up this week, hundreds of additional law enforcement officers will be on the road with the goal of enforcing distracted driving laws. More than 300 law enforcement agencies across Minnesota will take part in the enforcement campaign running through April 17.
It is illegal to read, write or send both texts and emails while part of traffic. That includes sitting at a stop sign or stop light. It is also illegal to access the web while part of traffic. The first offense comes with a $50 fine, while repeat offenders will be hit with a $275 fine. While cell phones are a major distraction for drivers, other drivers take their attention off the road by adjusting their radio, using a navigation system, or eating in the car.
