Police Seek Two Men in Columbia Heights Shooting Investigation

COLUMBIA HEIGHTS, Minn. (Oct. 4, 2013) – Shots rang out through a Columbia Heights neighborhood earlier this week, injuring a woman and leaving police searching for answers.

A 44-year-old woman that lived in the neighborhood was sitting in a vehicle near her home with a 42-year-old male acquaintance early in the morning when the violence began. The incident occurred on the 1300 block of Circle Terrace when two men approached the vehicle and began firing inside just before 2 a.m., according to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office. Commander Paul Sommer explained, “Both suspects fired multiple rounds in the vehicle, striking the female with two rounds… the suspects then fled, first on foot, but were later seen speeding out of the area in a white-colored passenger car.”

The woman’s injuries were not life threatening, but the situation happened so quickly that the victims were not able to identify the two attackers. According to Commander Sommer, only vague descriptions of the suspects are available at this time. One is described as a Hispanic male with an average build, around 5’9” tall. He was allegedly wearing dark clothing at the time of the attack. Commander Sommer says the second suspect was described as a black male who was also wearing dark clothing that evening.

Authorities do not believe that this was a random act, and currently believe that the male in the car was targeted by the suspects. “We really don’t believe that the general public is in any danger,” assures Commander Sommer.

Anyone with any information on the shooting is asked to call the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office at 763-323-5000.
