BLAINE, Minn. – (Jan. 22, 2015) – An early morning shooting woke residents in a Blaine neighborhood this week. Coon Rapids police officers responded when the suspect allegedly kicked down the door of a home after a potential assault in the street.
“The female homeowner called in reporting that someone had broken into her home. She locked herself in the bedroom and then indicated the suspect was fighting with another individual from that residence,” said Blaine Police Chief Chris Olson.
When the responding officers entered the home on in the 100 block of 92nd Avenue the incident quickly escalated.
“The suspect lunged at the officers and homeowner; law enforcement discharged service weapons, striking the suspect.”
The injured suspect was transported to North Memorial Medical Center and was expected to survive. Chief Olson said at this early point in the investigation they had not discovered any connection between the suspect and the individuals in the home or the neighborhood.
According to Olson, an event like this is very rare for the city of Blaine.
