RAMSEY, Minn. – (March 19, 2015) Mehendra Sukhdeo, 40, of Ramsey, MN, appeared earlier this week in Anoka County District Court on charges of Assault in the first degree and domestic assault. Judge Jenny Walker Jasper presided and set bail at $200,000.
According to the criminal complaint, Sukhdeo lives with his wife and children, as well as his mother and father-in-law. On March 7, 2015, Sukhdeo became angry at his 77-year-old father-in-law and struck him on the head so hard that his dentures were knocked loose. The next day, the victim told Sukhdeo’s wife that he needed to see a doctor, but she refused to take him. On March 9, 2015, the victim’s wife had a neighbor call 9-1-1 because the victim had fallen unconscious. Doctors confirmed that the victim had suffered a serious brain injury as a result of Sukhdeo’s assault. The victim remains unresponsive and in the hospital.
“This is a terrible case of elder abuse at the hands of a family member,” said Anoka County Attorney Tony Palumbo.
Sukhdeo’s next court appearance is set for April 14, 2015.
