LINO LAKES, Minn. – (April 20, 2016) – Whips. Spurs. Farm Animals. Fights. Which of these does not belong? Police responded to an incident Saturday night at a private rodeo in Lino Lakes that turned into a chaotic brawl. Five people were treated for minor injuries and at least two men may be charged with misdemeanors after the Lino Lakes Police Department responded to a call and found something unexpected, fights breaking out at a rodeo. The event took place near interstate 35W and Main Street on a 10-acre property and had an estimated 400 people.
The event featured live music, equestrian events, and a birthday celebration. Alcohol was present but no evidence was found of it being sold on site. The reason for the brawl allegedly stems from a calf roper not following proper rules and a dispute broke out leading to physical attacks by several party goers. When police responded they had to break up several fights and help people leave the event, which was difficult as many had tried to leave hastily when police arrived.
Anthony Caron owns the property but rents to a tenant. Caron said the tenant has had a similar party for five years without major incidents and has worked with the city for permission. The event organizer is cooperating with police while an investigation is underway.
