ANOKA COUNTY, Minn. (Nov. 7, 2013) — Voters headed to the polls on Tuesday for municipal and school district elections.
Voters in Circle Pines elected a Mayor and two City Council members. In the mayoral election incumbent Mayor Dave Bartholomay ran uncontested and received more than 96 percent of the vote.
For the Circle Pines City Council there were four candidates running for two seats. Incumbents Deb O’Brien and Rich Runbeck were reelected. O’Brien led all candidates with 33 percent of the vote; Runbeck was next at 28 percent. Challenger Richard Whitney came in third with 26 percent and finally Keith Perlich received 13 percent of the vote.
In Lino Lakes incumbent Mayor Jeff Reinert is also ran uncontested and took in 91 percent of the votes cast.
The Lino Lakes City Council became the most interesting race of the night. Incumbent Rob Rafferty easily won reelection with 32 percent of the vote. The race for the second council seat was much closer. William Kusterman edged out a 2 vote victory over Melissa Maher. The race will go to a hand recount of all ballots that should be completed in the next week. Recount updates will be posted on here and on the North Metro TV Facebook page and Twitter account.
Two local school districts elected school board members on Tuesday.
In the Anoka-Hennepin School District three seats were up for election, Anoka-Hennepin separates there board seats into districts.
In district three Bill Harvey, who was appointed to the school board last January after John Hoffman was elected to the Minnesota Senate defeated Grace Baltich 61 percent to 39.
In district four the incumbent Michael Sullivan did not run for reelection. William Fields defeated Janelle Kirkeide, and Paul Meunier. Fields pulled in 53 percent of the vote while Meunier managed 36 percent and Kirkeide 10 percent.
Finally in district six which includes parts of Coon Rapids and Andover Jeff Simon was uncontested.
The Spring Lake Park school district also held a school board election in which four seats are up for election. The four incumbents: Kelly Delfs, Marilynn Forsberg, Jodi Ruch, and John Stroebel were the only names on the ballot.
