BLAINE, Minn. – (May 21, 2015) – According to the CDC less than half of American bike riders wear a helmet even though statistics show it can reduce the risk of a head injury by 85 percent. More than 500,000 people per year end up in the emergency room with a head injury from a bicycle accident.
Thanks to Safe Kids Anoka County, kids in the community are going to be safer as they jump on their bikes this summer. Four bike helmet clinics were held over the last month and more than 1,000 helmets were sold to area children. Two of the helmet events took place at Blaine City Hall where 842 helmets were distributed. The helmets are sold for just $10 and public safety officials were on hand to help fit the helmets properly.
