“The bus drivers are the first point of contact in morning and the last point of contact,” said Golden Lake’s Lead Teacher for Student Services, Eric Nelson. “How a student’s day goes is really important, and the drivers are a part of that.”
The drivers were treated to a bite and a chance to catch up. Some of them even said they’d never been inside the school before.
“This was really nice of them,” said Paula Wrobel, who only started for driving since Christmas for Rehbein and Centennial Schools. “I retired. I needed something to do, and I just love kids, so it’s been a nice experience so far.”
The drivers were also treated to a luncheon at Rehbein’s headquarters in Lino Lakes.
According to the Minnesota School Bus Operators Association, this was the sixth annual celebration of those entrusted with getting thousands of students safely to and from school each day.
