COON RAPIDS, Minn. – (Jan. 5, 2017) – As many area shoppers focused on the announcement this week that the iconic downtown Minneapolis Macy’s will close in March, another retail company announced more than 100 store closures across the country.
Sears Holdings, which includes Sears and Kmart stores, announced another round of closings this week. Included is the Sears store at Riverdale in Coon Rapids.
In a statement Sears Holdings said:
“In order to meet our objective of returning to profitability, we have to make tough decisions and will continue to do so, which will give our better performing stores a chance at success. Eligible associates impacted by these store closures will receive severance and will have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Kmart or Sears stores.”
The store and attached auto center is expected to close by the end of March.
