BLAINE, Minn. – This week, cities across the North Metro area joined together to hold a Senior Safety and Wellness Fair for those who are 55 or older. The Spring Lake Park – Blaine – Mounds View Fire Department hosted the event, which also involved local police departments and park and recreation departments. The all day event covered a wide variety of safety and health topics.
“It’s really important for people to know what’s out there,” said Shelley Johnson, the Director of the Mary Ann Young Senior Center in Blaine.
Johnson says that one of the goals of the event is to teach people about health and safety services that are available to them.
This event has been an annual event for more than ten years, and is always very popular in the senior community. So much so, that all of the seats are taken weeks in advance. Organizers are glad to see such an interest, because it means their messages of safety and wellness can reach more people.
Overall, these city departments are working with the goal of getting helpful information to those who need it.
