COON RAPIDS, Minn. – (Feb. 4, 2016) – A serious car accident on Highway 10 closed the road for more than four hours on Wednesday during the rush hour.
Four cars were involved in the accident scene. One car was torn in half. The driver of the torn car, a 21 year-old female, was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with serious injuries.
Two other drivers involved in the crash also received injuries and were taken to a local hospital but have since been released. The driver of the fourth car did not receive injuries and had minimal damage to the vehicle. No passengers were in any of the cars.
Exact details of how the crash occurred are still being investigated. It is believed that the driver of the car that was torn in half, was driving eastbound on Highway 10, when something occurred that caused her to head into oncoming traffic on the westbound lanes of Highway 10. That is when the car had impact with two other cars travelling westbound at highway speeds. The fourth car involved had minimal
damage and was travelling eastbound.
The Coon Rapids Police Department has asked for tips from the public to assist in helping officers understand how this crash occurred. If you were a witness to this accident, you can call Detective Westberg at 763-767-6417.
