COON RAPIDS, Minn. – (Nov. 12, 2015) – Twin Cities Business Magazine announced the winners of their Minnesota Family Business Awards and Mary T Inc. of Coon Rapids was one of the proud recipients. The Minnesota Family Business Awards honor five outstanding family-owned businesses and the value they add to Minnesota’s economy and overall quality of life. Started in 1976, Mary T Inc. serves senior citizens and individuals with disabilities in four different states. While some might not want to work day in and day out with their family, at Mary T they see it as a gift.
“I think that family business is a gift. It’s a gift to the family in the sense of family cohesiveness, family working together, you can pass on those kind of entrepreneurial skills that I have. But also, I think it really benefits the people we serve, because it’s 100% family owned company, people are invested in what we do, they see this as a long term organization, and so I think that we are more committed to the people that we serve and we’re more knowledgeable about the people that we serve,” shared Mary Tjosvold, co-founder of Mary T Inc.
The family business award is not the only notoriety Mary T Inc. has received recently. They also won an award for business ethics.
Mary said, “We just won the 2015 large business ethics which was really a total surprise, not sure who nominated us, but it was a great award because we believe that we are a company that has high standards of ethics. We have a code of ethics, we believe in teamwork in operation and collaboration so when you get recognized for that, it’s a great honor.”
Mary believes that the organizational culture has a lot to do with their success.
“I think it’s really our culture. We look at people that we serve as our number one focus, then we look at employees as really a high, high second and we’re also involved in the community doing polar plunges, doing our school in Bemenda, Cameroon, and so we believe in giving back and being a part of the community that we’re in,” Mary concluded.
Mary, along with her mother, Margaret, will be joined by several Mary T. Inc. directors and employees to accept the 2015 Family Business Award on November 17.
