BLAINE, Minn. – (Feb. 4, 2016) – Fire Departments and Public Works Departments across the state are looking for a little help. With our recent snowfall, many fire hydrants are buried under the snow, and not easily accessible if a fire were to break out.
“We just ask all residents to do their part and shovel a path to that hydrant,” says SBM Fire Chief Nyle Zikmund.
When firefighters are called to the scene, and a fire hydrant isn’t available, they sometimes have to resort to using only the water they can bring in on the trucks, but that doesn’t last very long. A truck can run out of water in as little as 30 seconds, making hydrants essential.
