“The city council recently approved that new contract that will take the city’s relationship with Walters through 2029,” said Blaine communications manager Ben Hayle. Hayle says that having just one hauler leads to plenty of benefits.
This is the largest municipal hauling contract in the state, and before signing the extension, city staff did their research.
“We were able to review a number of other contracts that exist at this time between municipalities and a single hauler. And in doing that, we also found that Blaine residents are getting an incredible value with Walters. In 2024, the cost for the largest size garbage cart in Blaine will be $71 per quarter. The average cost in the metro area amongst those other organized haulers is $95 per quarter. So Blaine residents continue, uh, in this new contract will continue to get a great value.”
