SPRING LAKE PARK, Minn. (September 5, 2013) – The closure of the pedestrian bridge in Spring Lake Park has been extended in order to finish renovations that began earlier this year. Construction on the bridge started in early May and the bridge was closed to pedestrians on June 10. The bridge was originally expected to reopen to pedestrians by August 30, in time for the new school year.
Construction plans include the addition of two new pedestrian ramps, which will replace the stairwells. The constructions crews are also updating the railing and painting the steel beams. Pedestrians wanting to cross over Highway 65 will need to use an alternative route.
The bridge is expected to be finished in mid-September, but until then pedestrians are advised to use 81st Avenue Northeast to cross over the highway.
