SPRING LAKE PARK, Minn. (5/7/2024) – Preparing students for future careers is the goal of educators everywhere.
At Spring Lake Park High School there are unique classes that give students on-the-job experience.
On May 3 Minnesota Education Commissioner Willie Jett got an up-close and personal look at the Panthers career and college “Pathways program.”
“Could this be a model?” Jett said. “It should be a model. I would recommend people to come visit this to talk to the superintendent, to talk to the principal, to talk to the students, to talk to business people and community partners because there’s so many wonderful things happening here that benefit young people and overall benefit the entire community.”
“I’m teaching in a society that’s very different than the one I grew up in,” said Spring Lake Park principal Matthew Boucher. “I’m teaching in a society that is very different from the one I first started teaching in. Those are all realities. We have to remain flexible in education. We don’t get it right with every kid, or every family or in every circumstance but we don’t stop trying. We have the stomach for the work. That’s what makes me proud.”
