SPRING LAKE PARK, Minn. – Spring Lake Park is adding a new dog ordinance for dogs deemed dangerous. This new ordinance outlines the steps to take after an animal has been declared dangerous.
According to the ordinance, dogs who match the following criteria can be deemed dangerous: dogs who have bitten a human or another animal; dogs who chase or approach humans in an attitude of attack; dogs who have caused injury or threatened the safety of humans or animals.
Under the new ordinance, owners will have to take a number of steps to have the dog registered with the city; such steps include showing evidence that they have a proper enclosure for the dog and that warning signs have been posted. Owners will also have to take out a security bond of no less than $300,000 on the dog, microchip the dog, pay an annual fee of $500 for a Dangerous Dog certificate of registration, and have the dog sterilized within 30 days.
