SPRING LAKE PARK, Minn. (Oct. 24, 2013) – A Spring Lake Park man is behind bars after allegedly holding a woman hostage for hours after he slit her wrists. Benjamin Paul Adams, 40, has been charged with kidnapping, second and third degree assault, domestic assault, and terroristic threats. The investigator working this case for the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office has said he’s never seen a victim beaten so badly.
According to the criminal complaint, Adams was high on meth when he accused the 26-year-old-woman of having sex with other people. Adam’s had apparently placed spyware onto the woman’s phone so he could hear her phone calls. After hearing the voice of another man Adams allegedly told the woman that he was going to kill her and began hitting the woman in the face and head with a scissors. Adams then grabbed a razor blade and cut the victims left wrist. Hours later the woman was able to escape only to be tracked down by Adams. After trying to force her back into his apartment Adams eventually gave up and the woman was able to flag down a car. When the authorities went to Adams home they allegedly found multiple razor blades and blood.
Adams remains in the Anoka County Jail and his bail has been set at $300,000.
