SPRING LAKE PARK – Spring Lake Park voters will notice an important change in voting locations this year. The city council voted to move all three voting precincts to Emmanuel Christian Center on University Avenue.
State law said cities have until July 1 to make voting precinct changes, primarily away from schools as polling places, because of COVID-19 exposure risks.
Anoka County elections leaders say most cities are doing the best they can.
“The bill that was passed also said schools should not be used as polling places unless there are no other reasonable alternatives,” said Anoka County Elections Manager Paul Linnell. “We do have a number of school buildings used as polling places across the county, so we know cities won’t be able to get out of all the schools.”
The city of Blaine is also in the process of looking for alternative voting sites.
