Live on 65 features a number of local and national performances beginning on Oct. 22 when David Osborne plays at the school’s Fine Arts Center. “He is known as the Pianist to the Presidents, said Colleen Pederson, who runs SLP’s Community Education Department. “He has performed over 50 times at the White House. Sounds like he has a pretty phenomenal relationship with Jimmy Carter and his wife, and has performed at their anniversary parties and birthday parties. He is the resident pianist for the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas.”
He’s performed Christmas concerts at the White House dating back to the days of Bill Clinton. He met Carter at a Florida book signing, gave him a record and Carter became an instant fan.
Now Osborne, who grew up in Oklahoma, is a legend on the Vegas strip and has been viewed millions of times on YouTube.
Pederson believes Osborne and others will excite local music fans.
“That’s what I’m excited about is bringing people from all over our community and surrounding area to this concert series…Pederson said. “This month we have David. We’ve got Miss Myra and the Moonshiners who is a local group. Gary Mauer is a Broadway performer who has performed for many, many years on Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. Then finally we finish with the Copper Street Band, which is also a local group.
Live on 65 has a history in the North Metro and Pederson thinks there is an appetite for more concerts.
“This is something that we started actually back in 2011/12,” Pederson said. “We are bringing it back. We think it’s time. We think our community wants it and are hoping to bring people into this great theater and see these great performances.”
