SPRING LAKE PARK, Minn. – (June 29, 2017) – After a successful pilot program at Westwood Intermediate school, all primary schools will now be incorporating recess in shorter breaks throughout the day instead of one large break after lunch.
Research from the University of Minnesota shows that students need breaks throughout the day to refocus. Changes also include having teachers supervise outside with their students instead of paraprofessionals.
This allows teachers to decide when students need a break for free play or organized collaborative play.
