CIRCLE PINES, Minn. – (Jan. 29, 2015) – This week 360 students at Centennial High School spent a little time out of class. The students participated in a mobile pack for Feed My Starving Children. The event was organized by two high school seniors for their senior project. By the end of the day the students expected to prepare thousands of meals. “We’re expecting a good time, to have fun, and pack over 75,000 meals for 100 kids over in Africa,” said senior Ryan Meany.
Meany and his project co-leader, senior Kenzie Hart, spent the last several months collecting donations to be able to do the mobile pack event. They raised over $16,000 and see this project as a way to leave a legacy behind at Centennial. “They always talk to us about leaving our impact at our school before we leave and us being both seniors we wanted to leave our mark at Centennial and this is the best way we could do it,” said Hart.
Both Hart and Meany think projects such as this will make students think about their place in the global community and show the larger Centennial community and the good things being done by high school students. “I hope they see what they’re doing for the hungry kids around our world and with all the diseases they need our help over there so I hope that they see how good that they’re doing and hope to continue doing this as they grow older,” said Hart.
“Well I think it sets a precedent for everyone else and kind of brings the community together and know that the students here are doing food things to help others and we’re not just thinking about ourselves. We’re trying to do things worldwide,” said Meany. This is the second year that two students have organized a Feed My Starving Children day at Centennial and both Meany and Hart said they hope the tradition continues into the future.
