BLAINE, Minn. – Unintentional injury is the leading cause of death for children up to 14 years old. Every summer, there is an annual Safety Camp to help teach students entering the fourth grade about safety across a variety of different environments. The main goal of Safety Camp is to help reduce the number of accidents and injuries among our young children. The camp will also provide children with the skills necessary to cope with emergency situations.
This year, the children are taught safety in the following areas: Water Safety, Fire Safety, Electrical Safety, Internet Safety, Brain Injury Prevention, Personal Safety, Animal Safety and much more. They also had special visit from the Blaine Police K9 Unit and a Safety Magician. The instructors for Safety Camp are from state and city departments and also regional organizations. The adult counselors for the camp are Police Officers, Fire Fighters, Paramedics, and Recreation Staff.
This was the 17th annual safety camp in Blaine, and the most popular in registration numbers.
