COLUMBIA HEIGHTS, Minn. – (Sept. 24, 2015) – An elderly man from Columbia Heights is recovering in the hospital after being shot as he entered his home on Tuesday night. Police officers responded to the emergency call from the 5000 block of Johnson Street NE. When they got there, they found the 76-year-old homeowner on his kitchen floor with gunshot wounds.
The victim reported that he had just returned home and he had just walked in his home from the attached garage. The suspect entered the still open garage door, walked in the house through the service door and immediately shot the victim multiple times without making any demands. The suspect then searched the victim’s pockets and took the victim’s wallet and fled on foot. The limited suspect description is: a black male in his early to mid-20’s who was dressed in dark clothing.
Footage of the suspects vehicle was found on the surveillance video of Target located at 53rd and Central Avenue from where the suspect followed the victim. The vehicle is a late model dark or black sedan, likely a Dodge Charger.
