BLAINE, Minn. – On Thursday February 21, 2013 at approximately 9:00 PM, an officer of the Blaine Police Department was conducting a traffic stop, with the emergency lights activated, on northbound Highway 65 near the 125th Avenue Bridge when the squad was struck by a northbound pickup truck. The officer was outside of the squad car and standing by the driver’s door of the stopped vehicle when the impact occurred. The suspect vehicle continued past the officer, left the roadway and came to a stop near the shoulder of Highway 65. There were no injuries to the officer, the driver of the stopped vehicle or the suspect driver. The suspect driver of the pickup, an adult male, was taken into custody by the Minnesota State Patrol on suspicion of driving while impaired.
The accident is currently under investigation by the Blaine Police Department and the Minnesota State Patrol. No further information is being released at this time.
