(BLAINE – June 30, 2022) – While Target USA Cup returned last summer after one year shut down due to COVID restrictions, it wasn’t quite the same with no international participants.
When the tournament begins this year on July 8 at National Sports Center, the international presence–including two teams from war-torn Ukraine–will be back.
“Last year, everything was just a little bit smaller, a little more cautious,” said National Sports Center spokesperson Sara Soli. “This year, we’re much more full steam ahead, back with dances and a big opening ceremonies.”
Soli said Target will have more sponsored activities on-site, too.
The tournament brings an expected $25 million economic impact to the Twin Cities region.
“More than anything, we’re just excited to unite the world here in Blaine, and celebrate the world’s game of soccer,” she said.
