The Blaine Festival volunteer committee has been hard at work all year, scheduling events and planning exciting new ones. “We are doing pig races,” said Blaine Festival Committee member Kat Smithe. “Something new this year [is that] we have two groups coming in and they’re going to be doing fundraisers. One of them is the girl’s high school basketball team … and the other one is the World Taekwondo Academy.” All the pigs have sponsors and each of the sponsors got the chance to name their pig. Some of the pigs names are: Franken Swine, Albert Einswine, and Sunday Dinner. In addition, the festival will host a variety of other events this year, creating something for everyone to enjoy. “We keep it family friendly,” Smithe said. “We have live music, demonstrations and performances in both pavilions all weekend long.” As the festival continues to grow and change, the Blaine Festival committee encourages everyone to come and check it out. Smithe said “If you haven’t been here in awhile you need to come back and check it out because it’s really cool.” The festival will also offer free admission to the public for the entire weekend.
