LINO LAKES – (April 30, 2020) – Three people are facing a variety of drug and theft charges after a Lino Lakes resident reported witnessing a mail theft.
According to the criminal complaint, an officer caught up with the identified car in a parking lot and found William Wefel and Crystal O’Malley. Inside the car were altered checks, tax documents, and bank statements belonging to different people. There was also methamphetamine.
A third man, James Dalbec, was found later hiding the woods near the car. His backpack contained a stolen prescription, a stolen license plate, heroin, marijuana, razor blades, and more meth.
Wefel told authorities they had been stealing mail in the hopes of finding checks, and Dahlbec said the group has been traveling through four states and were stealing mail to support their drug habit.
