COON RAPIDS, Minn. – (March 11, 2015) – A shooting and suicide involving two teens leaves two families searching for answers in Coon Rapids.
According to Anoka County Sheriff’s office, a 15-year-old boy shot a 14-year-old girl at the boy’s apartment and then shot himself. The boy shot the girl once in the chest, and the bullet traveled to her jaw bone and stopped behind her ear.
She was taken to Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids and injuries were found to be non-life threatening. The boy was later found dead in a cluster of trees near his apartment complex. In the police report, the girl stated the boy was playing with the gun and does not believe the shooting was intentional.
The mother of the 15-year-old boy was present at the time of the incident and is cooperating with the investigation.
