“Still got a long way to go but we are watching some talented footballers so I think we have a good shot as long as we perform at a high level and keep improving, I think we’ll be a very difficult team to beat,” said head coach Carl Craig. “We certainly have talent but it requires everyone to perform consistently because it’s a very competitive league.” The team opened the season with two games on the road. After losing its open the team came back with a strong showing in its second game to pick up their first win of the young season. “It was a great response from the group to go on the road, win 2-0, it’s important. We needed three points, we climbed up the table, the group’s definitely coming together,” said Minnesota United forward Danny Cruz. “Like anything it takes time to gel, it’s an overall new group and we are going in the right direction absolutely.” The team is expecting a sellout of close to 10,000 fans to show up for its home opener. “It’s a great fan base we’ve got here who have been very supportive of us over the years,” said Craig. “I think as MLS draws nearer the excitement grows, and I expect that sort of enthusiasm and excitement to spill over from the stands on to the field so we’re really looking forward to it.” Just a few years ago this team was lucky to draw 3,000 fans to the stadium in Blaine. But, last year the stadium had to be equipped with additional seating to handle the demand. “We’ve done a decent job on the field, off the field staff have done a wonderful job of drumming up support, and certainly people in the stadium, the fans, have done a wonderful job of showing newcomers a wonderful time and I think it just becomes infectious,” said Craig. “I think it’s a great night out. It’s an affordable night out for a lot of families, the atmosphere is tremendous and I think it’s somewhat unique in the community and in the market in terms of how professional sports are watched and followed and for that reason it’s a great night out and more and more families are coming in to it, it’s great.” The unique atmosphere of a United game keeps many fans coming back, but the team is focused on giving its fans what all sports fans and athletes desire. “Professional sports, we can talk about fancy football movement and all that stuff but it’s about winning,” said Craig.
