ANDOVER, Minn. – An M41 Walker Bulldog tank has sat in Bunker Hills Regional Park since 1967. Over the years, it has deteriorated from being exposed to the elements and vandalization.
Anoka County Parks and Recreation has been collecting donations from veterans’ groups, local businesses and individuals for the tank restoration, and they now have enough money to restore the tank, improve the surrounding area, and get a new sign explaining the tank. The tank, while small, had a crew of four people when it was in action, and traveled at up to 45 miles per hour. Now, this tank sits quietly in the park and serves as a part of the Veterans Memorial.
The restoration will include repainting the tank in its original color, and should be complete by Memorial Day weekend for the program held annually by Veterans Council in the park.
