“This roadway, highway 10, along with highway 610 and Interstate 94 are three of the most travelled corridors in this part of the metro area,” said MnDOT’s Kent Barnard.
Starting on March 31st, US 10 will be expanding as lane capacity is increased on this concrete ribbon.
Said Barnard: “We’re going to be adding a third lane to highway 10 between Creek Meadow Drive on the east end and Round Lake Boulevard on the west end.”
MnDOT will also build three noise walls and resurface a mile of the highway.
“The congestion and the traffic volumes have increased substantially over the last few years,” Barnard said. “Leading to delays for motorists and also some safety concerns out here.”
Smooth sailing
The lane expansion is going to cost almost $40 million and will wrap up in late October. The area of construction pinpointed on highway 10 is often traffic-clogged.
“Right now this is a bottleneck between Creek Meadow Drive and Round Lake Boulevard,” Barnard said.
The upgrade combined with US 10’s major makeover in the past few years will mean smooth sailing through Anoka County.
“The addition of a third lane is definitely gonna allow traffic to travel more quickly and more safely through this area,” Barnard said.
The only caveat is there will be some detours while construction is going on.
“There will be some pain out here with lane closures and ramp closures and a detour,” Barnard said. “But the short-term pain is going to be well worth the long-term gain.”
