BLAINE, Minn. – (March 29, 2016) – In a season when the weather changes from day to day, a local golf course took a chance this week. The Victory Links golf course and driving range at the National Sports Center opened for the season on March 29, making it the second earliest opening Victory Links has ever seen. And the golfers were ready to go.
“I think we had about 40 people booked today,” said Tom Kirkland, Victory Links’ Head PGA Professional, referring to opening day.
As golfers finished their 18 holes, and others hit the driving range to loosen up for the first time this year, the course started to fill up with students eager to join their golf team on the course for the first time this year.
“Once we open we have our high schoolers who are coming out. We host five high school teams,” said Kirkland.
Victory Links stayed open until mid November last year, enjoying the moderate fall as well. And with the weather dipping in the 60s this week, they are happy to get their 2016 season underway.
“It’s not always the longest lived event here in Minnesota, for golf, but because it’s shorter I think everybody gets pumped up for it.”
Victory Links is the only public PGA Tour-designed golf course in Minnesota.
