BLAINE, Minn, – (Sept. 10, 2015) – Blaine will soon be home to a new Walmart Supercenter. The 185,000-square-foot store on Ball Road just off of Lexington Avenue will replace the current Wal-Mart on the other side of 35W in The Village.
“The difference between this store and the old location off Pheasant Ridge Drive is that the one on Pheasant Ridge Drive is mostly our general merchandise items. The great thing about this location we have a full selection of produce, meat, bakery, deli, dry grocery to really expand upon the general merchandise that was over at the other location,” said store manager Jeremy Barringer.
The transition from the current store to the new one will occur before the end of September and is designed to be quite seamless.
“The other location will close Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. This building will open at 7:30 a.m. on the 23rd. We’ll have grand opening ceremonies from 7-7:30 a.m. Doors open for business at 7:30 a.m.,” said Barringer.
With the bigger store the company is expecting to bring more jobs into the community. “We’re employing almost 300 employees for the community so a lot of new jobs created. I am hiring over 100 more associates than the other building so a lot more jobs are created for it,” said Barringer.
This project was met with opposition from the surrounding neighborhood throughout the planning stages and it took several years for the store to receive approval and be built.
