HAM LAKE, Minn – (July 13, 2017) – Creating a serene getaway right in your own backyard is a dream of many homeowners. After a family tragedy a Ham Lake couple created their peaceful retreat in honor of a family member.
“I have a sister who had a pond, and unfortunately she passed away of a pulmonary embolism about five years ago, and not long after that I said, ‘we really need a pond’. Because we love the water, and the waterfall is so relaxing, and I also wanted to honor my sister, so that’s when that idea came into play,” said Pam Pervenanze.
A water garden is any garden that has some sort of water element. Bringing a water source into your garden can create an atmosphere more conducive to attracting wildlife and is especially beneficial to helping pollinators. For Pam and Angelo their water garden is also a source of healing.

“It’s therapeutic, come out here to listen to the waterfall at night. It just calms you, and makes your evening feels so much gentler. It’s hard to explain sometimes,” said Angelo Pervenanze.
“It’s that connections of nature, we can see the pond through all of our windows from our home, so we enjoy it even when we are not out here. You see a bit of water, and it’s like ‘oh, that’s amazing,’” Pam added.
At the end of July, of the Minnesota Water Garden Society will hold their 20th Annual Water Garden Tour. Pam and Angelo were selected to be one of the stops of the tour. And, they are really looking forward to welcoming the community into their oasis.
“We are really excited about it because we have two days where we get to talk about ponds and show off our yard and that’s really exciting. When we built the pond, we join the Minnesota Water Garden society, and started attending the meetings, so we could learn more about the pond, and about what we needed to do with the pond, we actually volunteered to be on the tour this year, and were selected, so we are honored to be on the tour and really looking forward to it. It’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Pam.
There are also two tour stops in Blaine and another in Coon Rapids, plus many more.
