CHAMPLIN, Minn. – (Jan. 15, 2015) – The Anoka-Hennepin School District has its annual wellness day coming up. It’s a day for families to be proactive about their health in a fun, educational environment. The event began seven years ago.
“There was really a buzz going on statewide and nationally about how to make healthy lifestyle choices for yourself. So we wanted to get all of the resources together in our community. Bring them to one place, one day so people can come and learn more about specific health habits or practices,” said Anoka-Hennepin Community Education communications coordinator Heather Peters.
Community Wellness Day has grown in support every year and expects to continue to be a success. This years location has enabled for a new and unique class.
“Jackson Middle School has an observatory so one of the teachers there that runs the observatory is able to bring a presentation to participants that talks about how to protect yourself from harmful rays and how to utilize the benefits that the sun has for us,” said Peters.
Other activities include 39 exhibitors, giveaways, demonstrations, a farmers market, a bounce house, and plenty of fun things for kids. Participants of all ages will find something useful.
“We’ve been able to attract some new supporters and bring in some new resources to our participants,” said Peters.
Community Wellness Day takes place on Jan. 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Jackson Middle School in Champlin. There is a pre-registration for events but walk-ins are welcome. The event is free. More information can be found here.
