HAM LAKE, Minn. – (Feb. 4, 2016) – “We’re really excited to start our 10th anniversary,” said Snowbowl committee member Chris Mickman. The 2016 Ham Lake Snowbowl takes place on Saturday, Feb. 13 at Ham Lake Park. This large winter festival attracts more about 2,000 people every year. The decision to hold a community event in the middle of the cold winter months was intentional as organizers look to bring the community together at a time when many are cooped up inside.
“I think that because people spend to much time inside on their couches it’s really a wonderful opportunity to get out with a whole bunch of other people and see nature and see Minnesota winter at its best,” said Mickman.
There will be many events for people of all ages to enjoy at the 2016 Snowbowl.

“The snowmobile sleigh rides is something we started last year, super fun. The dog pull, and people say what is a dog pull, a dog pull is where people come with their Chihuahua size dogs all the way to their St. Bernard size dogs and then they pull their sled across kind of like a tractor pull,” said Mickman.
“We do also have broomball tournaments going on and that’s a fun thing because it has a whole different look than hockey but it’s still an opportunity to get out on the ice and we’re actually adding a women’s tournament so we have a men’s tournament, a women’s tournament and a co-rec tournament,” said Ham Lake Area Chamber of Commerce executive director Shana Schmitz.
The chamber is also looking forward to being able to showcase the many Ham Lake businesses.
“The business expo we will have a full tent of sponsors and people who are going to come in and we have three different businesses that are going to provide food. We have a lot more smaller businesses but we do have some really good landscape businesses, we have the investment businesses, we have the insurances, we have some really good restaurants in town so we have all kind of that small town need. We don’t have any of the big box stores, we really have more of that small town feel and getting to know when you go get your flowers every year you know that person you are purchasing from so that’s really a whole different feel,” said Schmitz.
But the main goal of the Snowbowl is to get people outside and bring the community together. “It’s a community event and it’s always good to get people out together,” said Mickman.
