Chris Schulz runs the facility which has exercise rooms, cardio equipment, weights, cold plunges and saunas.
“Movement is everything,” Schulz said. “Exercise is everything.”
Schulz knows fitness and he also knows that many people start a new year with lofty exercise goals but quickly give up on their routine.
“What I would say is just start small,” Schulz said. “You gotta build up to it. Build up to where you want to end up. Set your goals up high and chip away at it. The important thing is that you’re getting after it every single day. You’re doing something every single day. Whether it’s walking, running, lifting.”
Cross training is key
Cross training is something Schulz encourages. He believes in mixing up exercise routines to avoid getting into a rut and that being active should be something everyone focuses on.
“If you can get to the point where exercise becomes that priority and you know that you’re starting to care for the most important person in your life and that is you, then you’re onto something,” Schulz said.
For some exercise is pure drudgery. The treadmill can be the dreadmill, but Schulz has found creative ways to make this workout more user friendly.
He starts out by walking slowly at a slight incline, then turns around and backpedals to focus on different leg muscles. This is just one example of changing up a routine on a certain machine that can be beneficial.
Doing a variety of exercises – inside or outside – is a way to avoid getting into a workout rut.
Schulz also recommends that 10 to 15 minutes after eating a meal it’s important to go for a walk or move around any way possible – even if it’s doing the laundry, the dishes or vacuuming.
