Cheerleading used to be viewed as an accessory to sporting events. Now the activity is a sport, and there is even a class taught by an ex-U of M cheerleader at the National Sports Center in Blaine.

Road salt is part of a Minnesota winter – just like cold temps, ice and snow. However, too much chloride from salt is not good for people, animals, birds, fish and area waterways. The Rice Creek Watershed District believes the time is now to reduce salt usage in the North Metro.

Blaine has plenty of outdoor skating options. The city has a total of 22 rinks, including nine for hockey and four warming houses. Located at various city parks they are ready for the winter season.

Blaine PD and other law enforcement agencies were called to a house on Davenport Street recently after gun shots were fired. There were no injuries and there are multiple suspects in the case as police investigate exactly what happened.

Blaine HS students collected over 1100 winter coats for charity this year. Because of their desire to give back a lot of kids in the North Metro are going to benefit.
