For the fourth straight year rain totals in the North Metro are trending below normal as the drought continues. Lakes, streams and river levels are low – including the Mississippi.
Blaine votes to remove school resource officers from schools
The Blaine City Council held a special meeting on August 31, 2023 where the only major agenda item was to vote on pulling school resource officers out of schools. Blaine officers worked in four schools across three districts, providing police in both high schools and middle schools.
But for now, that’s coming to an end.
New roundabout should eliminate some Minnesota 65 delays
Soon there will be a new roundabout in Blaine. Road construction crews got started on a project in August at the intersection of Baltimore Street and 99th Avenue just east of Minnesota Highway 65.
Blaine’s State Fair express is a home run
For the first time since 2017 Metro Transit has express service going to the Minnesota State Fair from Blaine. Fair-goers can hop on a bus at the Park and Ride on 95th Avenue NE and I-35W and go straight to the fairgrounds and not have to deal with parking or traffic hassles.

A singer from the North Metro continues to impress judges in local contests. Stephanie Stevens has had so much success she will soon compete at a statewide event in October.
US 10 getting extra lanes in the North Metro
The ginormous US 10 road construction project through Anoka and Ramsey continues. Soon there will be even more improvements on the highway, this time in Coon Rapids.

Free breakfast and lunch coming to school this year
When students head back to school in a few weeks, one expense families won’t be faced with this year is meal fees. School meals will be free for all students.
New and better boardwalk to open soon on Rice Creek trail
A highly used trail in the North Metro has been closed for construction since last year. But if things go according to plan it could re-open next month.
