November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. During the month of November, the Minnesota Department of Health is encouraging all Minnesotans to test radon levels in their homes. Radioactive radon gas is the number one environmental cause of cancer deaths and the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.

Fairview Emergent Care to Open in Blaine
Blaine will be home to a new urgent care facility run by Fairview Health Services. Opening in 2014, Fairview Emergent Care will be a 11,000-square-foot medical center at the intersection of 35W and Lexington Avenue.
Metro Transit to Operate Highway Express Service
A new Highway 65 express coach bus will beginning in August 2014. The morning and evening rush hour service will begin its route in northern East Bethel, and make stops in Ham Lake and Blaine on its way to downtown Minneapolis.
New Immunization Requirements Begin Next Fall
New immunization requirements adopted by the Minnesota Department of Public Health will go into effect on Sept. 1, 2014. The new rules will bring the state’s immunizations law up-to-date with current nationwide recommendations and practices.
Blaine Man Arrested in Target Thefts
A Blaine man made over 22 visits to Target in just four months, allegedly all with the intent of stealing. According to the criminal complaint, 31-year-old Adam Johnson Dack has stolen or attempted theft at various Target stores throughout Anoka County.
Woman in Connection to Blaine Robbery Released
Police in Cannon Falls had 35-year-old Shawna M. Pearson in custody just hours after she held up the TCF Bank in Blaine the afternoon of Oct. 23. She was released several hours later.
Ham Lake Man Arrested in Lino Lakes Robbery
James Peter Schwab, Jr. of Ham Lake is being charged with burglary in the third degree after law enforcement noted suspicious activity at a vacant gas station and carwash.
Changes At The Polling Place In 2013
Voters in Anoka County will see new tabulator machines when they cast their vote on Election Day. The new state of the art machines are designed to enhance the voting process.
