ST. PAUL, Minn, – (Sept. 17, 2015) – Minnesota’s Department of Natural Resources is predicting exceptionally beautiful fall colors will appear this autumn. Right now, in our area, trees are green, healthy, and flourishing due to the levels of precipitation over the summer. This will result in remarkable color changes in the upcoming season.
If you are planning outings to enjoy the beautiful scenery this fall, keep in mind the peak color times of each region to get the most out of your experience. The northern third of Minnesota is best enjoyed in mid-September to early October, the middle third is most colorful from the end of September to early October, and the lower third of Minnesota which includes the twin cities, peaks from late September to mid-October.
A color map update will be available every Thursday to help you find the best places and times to go. The peak of fall colors will last about two weeks, depending on the weather. During that time, participate in family activities throughout many state parks and recreation areas.
